NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Megan Caporossi (Northford, Conn.) of the softball team and senior Richard Jackson (New Rochelle, N.Y.) of the men’s track and field team have been named as the Comcast/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Month for May.

BOSTON, Mass. – Five members of the Southern Connecticut State University men’s indoor track and field team traveled to Boston, Mass. on Saturday to compete in day one action at the IC4A Championships. Rich Jackson (New Rochelle, N.Y.), Brian Robbins (Bristol, Conn.) and Selasi Lumax (Somerset, N.J.) all recorded personal-best times in their respective events and Patrick Waszczak (Colchester, Conn.) finished sixth overall in the pole vault. Southern was one of three Division II programs in the 22-team field.

Jackson finished the 400 meters with a personal-best time of 48.69 seconds, 10th best time in program history. He finished 20th overall in the event.

Lumax’s mark of 1:51.38 in the 800 meters was the third fastest time in Southern history and was also a personal-best as he placed third overall in the event. Robbins also competed in the 800 meters and placed 17th with the 8th best time in school history and personal-best mark of 1:52.49.

Jackson, Robbins and Lumax were all members of the 4x400 relay team as well. The team, including Logan Sharpe (Esperance, N.Y.), finished 22nd overall in a time of 3:17.49. Jackson led off with a time of 49.3 seconds in his leg, followed by Lumax (47.4), Sharpe (51.0) and Robbins (49.6).

Waszczak cleared 4.80 meters in the pole vault to finish sixth overall.

Diwani Augustine, Ryan Whitehead and Selasi Lumax will return to action next week for the NCAA Division II Championships on Friday, March 12 and Saturday, March 13.
