NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Megan Caporossi (Northford, Conn.) of the softball team and senior Richard Jackson (New Rochelle, N.Y.) of the men’s track and field team have been named as the Comcast/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Month for May.

LAKEWOOD, N.J. – The Southern Connecticut State University women’s lacrosse team opened its 2010 season on Monday with a 15-3 loss to Georgian Court University. The host Lions scored the first 11 goals of the game en route to the victory.

GCU held a 9-0 lead at halftime and tallied the first two scores of the second half. 

The Owls scored their first tally of the game on a marker from Marissa Ryan (Waterbury, Conn.). Jessica Kraszewski (West Haven, Conn.) assisted on the goal.

The Lions scored the next two goals before the Owls countered with back-to-back markers from senior Teresa Monfredo (Shirley, N.Y.).

Georgian Court added two late goals to make it a 15-3 final.

Lisa Corso (North Bellmore, N.Y.) finished with 14 saves in the contest for the Owls.

Southern Connecticut returns to action on March 16 with a road game at C.W. Post.
